Top 10 Survivor Series Stats and Facts

For regular people, November might just be a month before December but for wrestling fans, November is all about Survivor Series. Being one among the big four pay-per-views, Survivor Series is a big part of the WWE calendar and that makes the expectations sky high. This year WWE is going to let a traditional elimination match headline the pay-per-view and with the lights of John Cena, Kane, Seth Rollins, Randy Orton and Triple H involved in that match, there is no shortage of star quality. The angle between Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt is another attraction of the pay-per-view but before we head out to witness the latest edition of Survivor Series there is a lot of history to be relived. So here is a look at the facts and stats from the pay-per-view’s rich history.

#10 No Survivor Series without the legends

Over the years, many WWE superstars have made it into the Survivor Series match card but it was Undertaker and Shawn Michaels that did it the most number of times.

Taker and Michaels have had a match at Survivor Series in 17 separate occasions each. The first survivor series was held in 1987 and 2014 would mark the 28th edition of the pay-per-view. By having 17 appearances each, Michaels and Taker has appeared in more than fifty percentages of all the survivor series.

Undertaker made his WWE debut at the pay-per-view as well while Michaels has the infamous Montreal screw job match in that magical number of 17.

#9 Good news for the Tag Team champions

Goldust and Stardust might not have a date for Survivor Series as things stand now but they need not worry too much about their titles even if they get one soon.

The current tag team title has been defended on three occasions at the pay-per-view and every single time, the champions came out with their gold intact. Also it wouldnt be a surprise if the company decides to let the title skip the show.

Los Matadores and Usos might seem to be the contenders right now but the luck and history will be with the Dust brothers in case the championship goes up for defense.

#8 Mr. WrestleMania had a tough time at Survivor Series with 10 losses

Shawn Michaels’ association with the Survivor Series was mentioned earlier in the list as he is one of those superstars who have made most appearance in the pay-per-view.

However, all those outings weren’t much fun for Mr. WrestleMania. Michaels has only won seven out of those seventeen matches leaving a whopping number of ten in his loss margin.

With that, he is the superstars with most number of losses as well. One thing that Michaels could found encouraging is the fact that he is retired.

This means that soon, somewhere down the history, he will get his forgettable record rewritten. But after all, we all love the Heart break kid no matter how man matches he lost.

#7 CM Punks record title reign started at Survivor Series

Buried under all those rich pipe bombs that Punk has given out during his WWE career is the longest title reign in the modern era. Fans may only remember Punk for being a rebel who walked out but in wrestling history he would be projected as a champion.

The memorable reign of Punk started at the 2011 edition of Survivor Series which took place at the legendary Madison Square Garden.

Punk came out and had an impressive match with Alberto Del Rio and eventually made the Mexican tap out to the Anaconda vise at the pay-per-view marking the start of a reign that redefined the way we saw him.

#6 A place for legendary debuts

Survivor Series has been the stage for some great moments and those moments have a rich collection of debuts. And I’m not talking about some ordinary debut that the company throw out every now and then, this is about the debut of legends.

Undertaker, Rock and Kurt Angle made their respective debuts at the pay-per-view making it a lucky charm for the youngsters who try to make a mark.

Taker was the first when he made his debut at 1990 and Rock followed up six years later. The Olympic gold medalist then took three more years to have his big moment at Survivor Series and the rest was history.

#5 And also a place where the unforgiving structure debuted

While the Survivor Series played host for some legendary superstars to make their debut, it also had the privilege to introduce an unforgiving structure to the WWE universe.

In the 2002 edition of Survivor Series, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Booker T, Chris Jericho, Kane and Rob Van Dam fought it out for the World Heavyweight championship inside a structure that Eric Bischoff called Elimination Chamber.

It was one of the best things that Bischoff did in WWE and fans were thrilled with the concept. The match turned out to be a huge success and the gimmick was then used on a regular basis from that point with the company even dedicating a complete pay-per-view for the gimmick as well.

#4 Rusev will have to rewrite history

The United States Champion, Sheamus got an open challenge from Rusev at SmackDown and from the looks of it, both men would face off at Survivor Series for the championship.

Now, though Rusev has been dominating all of his opponents irrespective of size and push, the will have the history stacked against him on November 23rd. The challengers for United States championship don’t have a good record in the pay-per-view as the title has never changed hands there.

Names like Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Cesaro, Chris Benoit, Booker T and Edge went into the show as champion and came out the same. Sheamus would be trying to do the same but he has a big task in his hand to full fill.

#3 John Cena\'s impressive 8-1 record

Yeah I know, its Cena again. It’s hard to find a pay-per-view where Cena has a bad record and Survivor Series is no different.

The Cenation leader has appeared on the show at nine separate occasions and he has only lost once. That too was in a triple threat match against CM Punk and Ryback back in 2012 where CM Punk had a lot of help from the debuting Shield (yeah, they also debuted at Survivor Series).

This year, Cena would be going eager to face off against Team Authority and Hunter wouldn’t be much encouraged about Cena’s record. Though the fans wouldn’t want it to happen, Cena might end up being the lone survivor when the show ends.

#2 21 at WrestleMania and 12 at Survivor Series

Despite having a lot memorable moments throughout his long career, it is a shame that the Undertaker would only be remembered for his WrestleMania streak by many.

Taker went on to have an impressive run of twenty one wins at the big daddy of them all and he had an equally impressive record at Survivor Series. Out of the 17 matches he wrestled, Taker went on to win 12 matches making him the most successful wrestler in the pay-per-view.

His first win came in his debut at 1990 and just a year later, Taker won the WWE championship at Survivor Series by beating Hulk Hogan. It wouldn’t sound like a big deal now, but it was back in the early 90s.

#1 The reason why Lesnar decided to skip the pay-per-view?

Brock Lesnar’s absence will be a big gaping hole at this year’s Survivor Series as the company would be heading into the show without a champion.

Now, the WWE might have many reasons to tell why Lesnar wouldn’t make it to the show but maybe it’s because he doesn’t want to appear there. Lesnar has made two appearances at Survivor Series and lost in both occasions.

In 2002, he lost out to Big Show and a year later, Lesnar led his team against Team Angle only to be defeated again. Lesnar was made to tap out (imagine that happening now) by the one who shouldn’t be named (just kidding, it’s Chris Benoit).

So since Lesnar doesn’t have fond memories about Survivor Series me might have just decided to get some popcorn and watch some action rather than improving his losing record.
