Top 5 WWE rumours of the week and analysis: June 21, 2015

Kevin Owens- a superstar in the making

Will we have a Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar rematchAnother week has passed by in WWE’s journey towards SummerSlam. Just like all those weeks that went by, this week was also filled with rumours. The plan for SummerSlam was one of the major talking points of this week. Brock Lesnar’s return has stirred up the WWE landscape pretty well and this kick started some wild assumptions. The Battleground stop before SummerSlam also received its fair share of attention from the rumour mill. The upcoming weeks will shape up the scenario clearly but before that, here is a look at the top five rumors of the week and their analysis.

#5 WWE saving big match for SummerSlam

Kevin Owens- a superstar in the making

The Kevin Owens vs. John Cena feud is going to be stretched all the way to SummerSlam. The pairing gave two great matches till now and will be looking for something similar in the coming pay-per-views. Although the idea is to let these two compete at Battleground, this idea could be changed in favor of a big match at SummerSlam.

WWE is likely to play up some attack angle involving Cena so that he could be kept off television till SummerSlam. No matter which way they choose, a big stipulation will be added to the match between these two at SummerSlam. There is no hint on the stipulation now, but it will be out in the rumor mill by next week.

#4 Major superstar leaving the company

Will Jack Swagger be the one to walk out?

WWE could expect a big departure in the near future. Former World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger is not happy with his stay in the company and is considering an exit. Swagger has been put into random feuds ever since the Real Americans broke up back in WrestleMania 30. His last memorable feud came against Rusev and he hasn’t been relevant since.

The creative team is not showing any urgency in his matter and this has rubbed Swagger in the wrong way. If Swagger decides to leave, he will have plenty of options to choose from. Companies like TNA, Ring of Honor, Global Force Wrestling and Lucha Underground will be willing to take him up without hesitation.

#3 WWE to introduce NXT Divas

Charlotte can be Paige’s new partner in the main roster

Last week on Raw, we saw Paige trying to rally the Divas division against Bella Twins. The Brit was unsuccessful in it but there is more than what meets the eye in this angle. WWE is stacking the odds against Paige so that they can introduce a new face into the mix. This new face will apparently be an NXT diva.

It is a long list for WWE to choose from. However, Charlotte might be getting the higher priority. Speaking of NXT, Finn Balor is not expected to be in the main roster anytime soon and we might have to wait till next year to see him make the cut into the big leagues.

#2 Nikki Bella to set new record

Nikki Bella is set to surpass Maryse’s title reign

Nikki Bella has been reigning as the divas champion for a long time now. According to the rumors, she is on her way to beat the record of AJ Lee. As things stand now, AJ Lee is the longest reigning WWE Divas Champion. WWE is not keen on keeping AJ in that position and wants Nikki to break it.

The only thing that could stop Nikki from doing this would be an injury. With the plans of introducing a new NXT diva into the division, WWE will have an opportunity to take the focus off Nikki. Once the record is broken and AJ is out of the books, we might get to see Paige or any other major name getting hold of the championship.

#1 New Champion to be crowned at Battleground

Brock Lesnar

Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar will face off at Battleground for the WWE championship. The current plan is to let Lesnar win back the Championship. The reign of Rollins hasn’t impressed a lot of the backstage personnels. Also, no one wants to see Lesnar take a clean loss against Rollins. With or without the title, Lesnar is sure to compete at SummerSlam.

If it is with the championship, WWE is looking for a huge title defense. And unlike the regular way of giving Rollins a rematch at SummerSlam, we might get to see Roman Reigns entering the picture. A SummerSlam poster saw Reigns vs. Lesnar match being advertised. If this happens, Reigns will be the first major challenge of Lesnar’s title reign.
