Undertaker's Top 5 legacies other than the streak

The name Undertaker has been synonymous with his WrestleMania streak for a long time now. And when the streak ended, many concluded that this could be curtains for his career as well. They may be right or wrong, but one thing that most of those fans forget is that Undertaker wasnt a superstar who only had the streak to define him.In fact, in his 24-year career with the WWE, the mention of the streak came only when it reached 13-0.And even though we might only remember Taker for his streak once he hangs up his boots, there are certain other memories that he will leave. So here is a look at some of them.

#5 His Gimmick matches

One of the things that the fans enjoyed most about Taker has been his gimmick matches. Throughout his career, Taker has been associated with Hell in a Cell, Buried Alive and Casket matches which he could claim as his own backyard.

The last two in particular will be remembered for having Taker’s finger prints on them. It was the Buried Alive match that gave him the whole dead man gimmick in the first place.

Casket match on the other hand has Taker’s aura all over it and it’s a fact that we might not see it again once Taker retires.

But if the company decides to throw in those matches, it will always be a tribute to the dead man who made these matches a big draw.

#4 Kane

Early into his wrestling career, the gimmick that Glenn Jacobs had was that of a Dr. Isaac Yankem who was a mess. And later, the WWE gave him a fake “Diesel” gimmick which was later classified by Vince McMahon as a disappointing creative decision.

But it was not until Kane came across that Jacobs found his foot in professional wrestling. And who was Kane? The brother of the Undertaker.

The angle between the brothers was an instant hit with the fans and it was so good that many of the fans still don’t know that they are not really brothers.

And it’s clear as the sky that there wouldn’t have been a Kane without Undertaker.

#3 The Tomb Stone Piledriver

Like Taker, his move set will go down in the history books under the tag 'legendary'. And one move in particular that is going to make everyone remind us about Taker will be the Tombstone Piledriver.

Over the years, he used the same to take out many of his opponents and just to let everyone know how devastating the move is, it was the same thing which shortened the career of Stone Cold Steve Austin.

At SummerSlam 1997, Owen Hart tried to pull it off and ended up breaking Austin’s neck which almost paralyzed him.

Taker did it all those years and never made anyone suffer a similar fate, which deserves a lot of appreciation. So the next time you see someone pull of the Tombstone Piledriver on WWE, we are bound to be swept away by a wave of nostalgia.

#2 His matches with Shawn Michaels

In his two decade long career in the WWE, Taker went through numerous opponents that delivered great matches with him.

Be it Kane who had a lengthy feud with him or be it Mick Foley who took one of the most dangerous falls while wrestling the Phenom, Taker’s opponents always had some story to tell.

And from that pile of big names is a certain guy along with whom Taker set the bar for every match that took place in the WWE. Taker and Shawn had numerous battles in the promotion but the one in WrestleMania 25 stands out as one of the best matches that ever took place in professional wrestling.

Taker also ended the career of Michaels a year later which no one will forget, even if Michaels comes back into the ring.

#1 The Undertaker\'s Gimmick

WWE always have a tendency to recycle the gimmicks that they come up with. But one gimmick that they will have a hard time recycling will be that of the dead man.

There won’t be another character like Undertaker; he was someone who used to do things that we only saw in movies. He used to disappear, he used to come out of nowhere, he used to set caskets on fire and, hell, he even came back to life after being buried.

Growing up seeing all that, many would’ve even thought that this guy was really from some creepy place that we wouldn’t dare go. He was like a good guy who stepped right out of our nightmares.

Though WWE gave him the American badass gimmick for a short time, Taker will be defined by the dead man gimmick which everyone loved. I mean, how often do you see people love such a creepy character?

It’s something only he could have pulled off and when Taker retires, he will be leaving behind his legendary gimmick which will not be taken up by anyone else.
