Indian contingent at the Asian Individual Squash Championship

CHENNAI: A five-member Indian squad is proceeding on Wednesday to Kuwait to take part in the Asian Individual squash championship to be held there from May 1 to 5. The members are Saurav Ghosal, Harinder Pal Sandhu, Mahesh Mangaonkar, Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa.

National coach Cyrus Poncha and Mekhala are the two officials accompanying the team. Maj S.Maniam, Consultant Coach of the SRFI is the Technical Director for the championship.

Both Saurav and Dipika are seeded two in the men’s and women’s sections. While Joshna is seeded fourth, Mahesh is placed sixth and Harinder is eighth. All the Indians have a first round bye.

In the last edition held in Islamabad in 2013, India had not taken part. Aamir Atlas Khan of Pakistan and Annie Au of Hong Kong were the respective men’s and women’s title-winners in the previous edition.
