Indian Junior Squash Open to start in Chennai from August 23

Chennai will play host to Indian Junior Open

The Indian Junior Open (IJO) is an SRFI, Asian junior super series and World junior circuit event with competitions in ten age categories (boys and girls) U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19. Out of a total of 503 entries – there are 343 boys entries and 160 girls entries. Participants will receive World Squash Federation (WSF) ranking points (U-19), ASF points (all categories) and SRFI ranking points (four star).

Overseas response has come in from Malaysia, Singapore, USA, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Nepal and Bahrain.

Matches will be held at the eight courts located at the Indian Squash Academy, Chennai.

For India much interest will centre around Kush Kumar who became the first male Indian player to earn a bronze medal at the World junior championship at Namibia. He is the top seed in the U-19 category and was the winner last year. Also in action will be Velevan Senthilkumar & Vijay Kumar the other members of the Indian contingent that finished 6th at the World Junior Championships in Namibia.
