CAIRO: India's lone entrant Joshna Chinappa failed to produce the magic of past and went down to the third-seeded Egyptian Raneem El Welily in a first round match of the $100,000 Al-Ahram International, a PSA major event here late on Monday. The Egyptian won 11-8, 11-2, 11-7 in just under half an hour.

Last year in the Qatar Classic, Joshna had caused a sensation when she had downed Raneem, who was then the top seed in the first round. The world number 10, this time, was hardly given the freedom to dominate even though, according to reports, the Indian hardly put a foot wrong.

Raneem, on the other hand, seemed on a revenge path as she went on a quick-finish spree. In 12 minutes the Egyptian had gone two games up. Joshna responded well, played hard shots to go neck and neck in the third game until seven points each. There Raneem came up with four points in a row to stitch up the game and match.
