Kush Kumar goes down fighting; settles for bronze in the British Open

Kush Kumar

Valiant Kush Kumar’s tenure at theTecnifibre British junior open squash ended late on Monday night when he was beaten by the second seeded Egyptian Omar El Atmas over four games in a well fought semifinal. Still the Indian, the current national champion, making his last appearance as a junior in this prestigious annual event had the consolation of gaining a bronze medal after the Britisher George Parker conceded the play off match for the third place.

Kush had led with a game up to start with. There were rallies galore in this pacy match and moments when the Indian looked matching up well in consistency. But the end stage slip was fast as Atmas ran off with a 9-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6 victory.
