Saurav Ghosal rises one spot to 19th in latest PSA World Rankings

Ghosal returned to the PSA Tour in February

After winning a round each at the Colombia Open and the Windy City Open since his comeback, Indian squash ace Saurav Ghosal has risen one spot to be placed at 19th in the latest world rankings, released by the Professional Squash Association (PSA) on Tuesday.

Ghosal returned to the PSA Tour in February as a fatigue fracture on his right foot ruled him out since early December. He reached the quarter-finals of the Colombia Open and the second round of the Windy City Open, both times falling to World No. 4 Omar Mosaad. Besides, Saurav also clinched a gold and a bronze medal at the South Asian Games last month.

Mahesh Mangaonkar, who too was out for two months due to a health-related problem, made a jump of two spots to be ranked 65th in the March rankings. Mangaonkar reached the semi-finals of the Cactus Open since re-joining the Tour.

Among the others, former national champion Harinderpal Sandhu is ranked 68th while rising star Kush Kumar is 91st.

Joshna Chinappa static at 14th

On the women’s side, Joshna Chinappa continues to be the highest-ranked Indian as she remains unchanged at 14th. She made it to the quarter-finals of the Cleveland Classic in February apart from winning the women’s singles gold at the South Asian Games.

Dipika Pallikal, meanwhile, dropped a place to be 18th in the latest rankings. Like Chinappa, she too was a quarter-finalist at the Cleveland Classic.

The third Indian – 21-year-old Sachika Ingale – dropped three spots to be placed at 87th.
