India went down 0-3 to higher seeded Hong Kong in the opening Group D league match of the WSF World women's team squash championship being held at Niagara-on-the-Lake venue Monday. According to Maj S. Maniam, Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) Consultant coach who has accompanied the team, the girls failed to get into their stride despite showing some promise in the opening encounter. India are seeded 13th, while Hong Kong are fourth.

Anaka Alankamony showed some initial fight against Joey Chan but could not stay. Joshna Chinappa was up against a higher ranked Annie Au, but struggled to keep up pace even if she played some good rallies.

With the tie decided, newcomer to the scene Harshit Kaur came on to face Liu Tsz-Ling and even if she showed some effort to claw back from a game down, could not keep the stamina going and faded out.

The results:

Pool D: Hong Kong beat India 3-0: Joey Chan bt Anaka Alankamony 4-11, 11-1, 11-4, 11-9 (36mins);

Annie Au bt Joshana Chinappa 11-3, 11-8, 11-8 (24m);

Liu Tsz-Ling bt Harshit Kaur Jawanda 11-2, 12-10, 11-5 (28m).
