Squash: Sachika goes down in the round of 16 - World Junior Championship

Sachika Ingale and Harshit Kaur Jawanda played superbly before going down against higher rated opponents at the World Junior Championship in Wroclaw, Poland.

Sachika Ingale continued her marvellous run in this tournament with a stunning win over Canadian no.1 and [13/16] seed Hollie Naughton in the third round. Sachika hit really tight lengths and used delicate drops to outsmart her opponent taking the first game 13/11. Hollie went for her shots and picked up easy points to take the second game and draw level.

Sachika quickly put the second game behind her and returned to her plan A hitting the right lenghts and wrong footing the Canadian. In a bizarre turn of events, Sachika completely switched off in the fourth game allowing Hollie to race away to 11/0 and take the match into a decider. Thankfully, she regained her composure to take the match in just 36 mintues.

Sachika, the only Indian to make the pre-Quarterfinal, was up against two-time World Junior Champion and top seed Nour El Sherbini of Egypt. Nour El Sherbini was ranked as high as 4th on the Women’s Tour in February 2013 and is a regular on the main circuit and it was no surprise as she brushed aside Sachika for the loss of just 5 points.

Penang Junior Open Champion Harshit Kaur Jawanda took on Asian U-19 Champion Ho Ka Po of Hong Kong for a place in the last 16. Harshit Kaur played the match of her life producing some outstanding drives and cross-courts to go with drops and volley-drops. Harshit Kaur had Ho Ka Po in a spot of bother winning a close first game 13/11 and led deep into the second game. Harshit Kaur failed to cling on to the advantage and surrendered the second game for the KA Po to gain a foot hold in the match. Experienced Ho Ka Po kept the rallies going and won the match in 4 games.

Lakshya Ragavendra wad defeated by Lily Taylor of England in round 3. Lakshya, played her best, but her lengths were not penetrating enough, allowing Lily Taylor to string together easy points. After dropping the first game, the English lass appeared in firm control throughout of the match and cantered to a win in just about 30 minutes.
