India's Achanta Sharath Kamal.

Achanta Sharath Kamal is one of India’s top table tennis player.

Professional table tennis player Sharath Kamal who currently represents Bundesliga side Borussia Duesseldorf in Germany is delighted with his progress and hopes to break into the top-30 ranking by the end of this year.

“Playing in these big events gives me a chance to further improve my rankings. I think with the level of table tennis I am playing at the moment, I can probably look at a top 30 spot by 2014 end,” 31-year-old Kamal told GulfToday.

Kamal is one of the best table tennis players India has ever produced and won the Arjuna award back in 2004.

“Most importantly, I would like to win back the singles and team gold at the Commonwealth Games but the mighty Singaporeans will be there as always and we have to figure out a way to beat them. Asian Games will obviously be tougher but I will try to get the maximum out of it,” he added.

Currently ranked 53, Kamal had broken into the top-50 after his showing in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi where he had won gold in the Men’s Doubles category after teaming up with Subhajit Saha.
