A DPR Korea Player holds the country’s flag after winning Gold Medal in the Championship

DPR Korea have been crowned champions in the senior category of the Seventh Asian Taekwondo Championship with 24 gold and four silver medals. The tournament was held at the National Sports Council covered hall in Kathmandu, Nepal. Tajikistan finished as the runners-up in the senior category with three gold, 12 bronze and seven bronze medals while Kazakhstan took third place with three gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan won the junior category title with 26 gold medals. Kazakhstan took second place here with eight gold medals and Turkmenistan finished third with two gold medals.

Mi Hang Pak of DPR Korea, who won three gold medals, was awarded best women’s player of the championship while Kyong Hum Ra, also of DPR Korea, with two gold medals, was declared as the best men’s player of the championship.

Tajikistan’s Sironbonu Neivev and Turkmenistan’s Orajmirat Chari were declared the best players in the girls’ and boys’ categories respectively in the junior section.

The championship was also fruitful for Nepal as Nishma Bashyal won the first ever gold at an Asian level championship for Nepal to create history. Nepal also won seven silver and 15 bronze medals in the championship.

More than 300 players from 20 countries participated and competed for a total of 60 gold medals in four categories – sparring, patron, self-defence and special technique in the five-day long Asian championship, organized by the Nepal Taekwondo Association.
