BIO: The Indian cricket team is without doubt one of the best cricket teams in the world. It is even arguably one of the top three teams. Although cricket has been part of the Indian history since the arrival of the English merchants in the 18th-century, the first cricket club in India was established in Calcutta in 1792. Even then, it was not until 25 June 1932 at Lord's, that India got to play in it's first match. The team saw it's greatest period in the 1980s and much of the success can be owed to the appearance of stellar players, that are now living legends, like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Erapalli Prasanna, Srinivas Venkataraghavan, Bishen Singh Bed etc.   The Indian cricket team is currently ranked third by the ICC in Tests, first in ODIs and third in T20Is. India' first World Cup victory was in 1983 under Kapil Dev. India won the World Cup a second time in 2011 under Mahendra Singh Dhoni. India also won the inaugural World Twenty20 under the captaincy of Dhoni in 2007. Dhoni has proven to be a captain par excellence over the years. Under the leadership of Dhoni, the Indian team has set a national record for most back-to-back ODI wins, with nine to their credit. Some of the famous cricket palyers form India who have made their marks in the world are: Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir etc.
