BIO: The Indian Olympic Association sent the nation's largest delegation that the country has seen to date, to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Around eighty three athletes were sent out to take part in a total of thirteen games and of these players, sixty were men and twenty three women. The team consisted of Olympic medalists from the previous Olympic games held at Beijing, including rifle shooter and Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra. Men's field hockey was the only team-based sport in which India had its representation in these Olympic games. India also marked its Olympic return in weightlifting.   This was the most successful India has been to date in the Indian Olympics. Indian took home a tally of six medals- two silver and four bronze, which is twice more than the nation's previous record. Two of the female athletes won medals as well- Mary Kom and Saina Nehwal. Badminton player, Saina Nehwal, became the first Indian athlete to win an Olympic bronze medal in the women's singles. Wrestler and Olympic bronze medalist Sushil Kumar managed to claim another medal by winning silver in the men's freestyle wrestling.
