It's a slippery slope: Djokovic and Dimitrov both slip and fall at the same time during their Wimbledon semifinal

We all know the grass at the All-England Club is slippery, but no one knew it was this slippery.

Novak Djokovic and Grigor Dimitrov kept tumbling to the turf during their semifinal match at the 2014 Wimbledon championships yesterday. Is the grass on Centre Court really that treacherous? Indeed, Djokovic and Dimitrov have had trouble maintaining their footing on the slick surface all tournament; both of tasted grass more times than they’d have liked this fortnight.

Of course, the fact that they both scramble so frantically – even attempting to slide on the grass frequently – contributes to their shaky footing. They are both extremely flexible and are blessed with ‘elastic’ mobility, and while that helps them get to shots that ordinary players can’t even dream of reaching, it also causes them to regularly slip and fall over on the slick grasscourt surfaces at the All-England Club.

Their slipping tendencies came to a head during a single point during their match yesterday, with Dimitrov slipping not once but twice in the same point, and then Djokovic following suit and slipping at exactly the same time, leading to the hilarious sight of both men sprawled on the court after the point was over.

It’s no wonder it is said that grass is the toughest surface to master!
