Stan Wawrinka celebrates a point in the final against Novak Djokovic

Stan Wawrinka upset World No. 1 Novak Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in an action filled final on court Philippe Chartier this evening.

Wawrinka found himself a break point down in the opening game of the first set,but held on thanks to a couple of forehand winners. Djokovic was the first to take the lead courtesy a break in the seventh game.

It wasn't all over for Wawrinka as the Swiss put tremendous pressure on the World No. 1 in the tenth game. He got his first break point opportunity of the match after two forehand winners kissed the line. Djokovic went for two wide serves and wrapped up the first set when Wawrinka's backhand passing shot sailed wide.

Djokovic saved two break points in the fourth game of second set as Wawrinka went for too much on his backhands. The No.8 seed looked at ease on his service games, but wasn't able to convert quite a few break point opportunities in the sixth and eighth games. Wawrinka went for broke in the tenth game and broke Djokovic for the first time to make it one set apiece.

The Serb was struggling on his first serves and he paid the price when Wawrinka got an early break and sped to a 5-2 lead. The Serb held his serve before Wawrinka served it out for a two sets to one lead.

Djokovic was serving ahead for the first time in the match in the fourth set. After breaking Wawrinka’s serve in the second game, the World No. 1 led 3-0. He couldn’t sustain the lead though as Wawrinka had too much power on his groundstrokes to bring it level at 3-3. The Swiss broke once again in the seventh game before serving it out in the tenth game to capture his second Grand Slam title.
