Giant killer Nitin to meet top seed Vishnu in Asian Tennis Tour final

Kolkata, Nov 12 (IANS) Local boy and present junior Under-18 national champion Nitin Kumar Sinha will meet top seed and defending champion Vishnu Vardhan in the BTA Asian Tennis Tour final here on Sunday.

Nitin beat Suraj Prabodh 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the semi-finals while Vardhan got the better of Nitin Kirtane 6-2, 6-3.

Nitin broke Suraj early at 1-2 with a powerful forehand winner at break point to go 3-1 up and held on to the break winning the set at 6-3.

In the second set, Nitin started missing a few ground strokes and double faulted twice at 1-1 to be broken early.

Suraj took full control of the set getting into a good rhythm to take a 5-1 lead.

Eventually Suraj won the set 6-3.

In the deciding set, Nitin was down 0-30 in each of the first three games but pulled off all the games playing solid from the baseline and at times moving to the net.

Finally Nitin won the final set at 6-2.

In the other semi-final, Vishnu beat Kirtane in straight sets to reach the final. Both players held their serve at 2-2 and Vishnu started attacking a lot on Nitin's backhand and came up to the net to close out the point.

With two breaks, Vishnu won the set 6-2. In the second set things went almost along similar lines with Vishnu breaking his opponent once and taking the set and the match.
