Gilles Simon and Leonardo Mayer crash out of Nottingham Open

Sam Querrey celebrates his win over Gilles Simon in the quarterfinals

The Nottingham Open saw upsets in the quarterfinals on Thursday with Gilles Simon and Leonardo Mayer bowing out of the tournament.

Sam Querrey beat Simon 5-7, 7-5 (8), 6-4, while Mayer lost 6-3, 6-7 (8), 7-6 (6) to Denis Istomin. The Uzbekistan player will play 2006 Australian Open runner up Marcos Baghdatis in the semifinal. Baghdatis made it to the last four with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Italy’s Simone Bolelli.

The other semifinal will see Querrey face off against Alexandr Dolgopolov, who beat Yen-Hsun Lu 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4) in the last quarterfinal of the day.
