Hamburg Open: Leonardo Mayer wins his first ATP World Tour title after beating David Ferrer in the final

Berlin, July 21 (IANS) Leonardo Mayer defeated top-seed David Ferrer in three sets 6-7, 6-1, 7-6 to lift his first title on the ATP Tour on Sunday. The 27-year-old Argentinian needed 2 hours and 20 minutes to overcome the Spaniard. He walked away with a prize money of € 272,300.

The Spaniard won the first set 7-3 in the tiebreak but gave away the second set 6-1 to the World No. 46. Mayer utilized his momentum to break Ferrer's serve, making it 3-2.

However, the World No. 7 fought back and equalized the score at 5-5. A tiebreak decided the match as Leonardo held his nerve to secure a win on his first matchpoint.
