Draws are now being announced at the Stade de Roland-Garros for the second Grand Slam of the year, the clay court French Open. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is top seed at the tournament, but has never won a title here. The Coupe de Mousquetaires remains the only trophy missing from the cabinet of the Serbian ace, who has the fifth-highest win percentage on clay overall.
Djokovic was most recently in the finals of the French Open last year, but crumbled to Swiss ace Stan Wawrinka, who took the second grand slam title of his own career.
Rafael Nadal, who this year won his ninth titles at the Monte Carlo Masters and at the Barcelona Open during the 2016 clay court season, will be looking for a record tenth French Open title. The most successful clay court player in the history of tennis, the Spaniard will be looking to complete La Decima at the venue.
Andy Murray recently took the title at the Italian Open, defeating a flagging Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, and with good form and an increased success on clay, is one of the frontrunners for the title this year.
Also among the frontrunners, of course, is World No. 1 Djokovic, who is immensely successful on clay and with near-unbeatable form this year and a grand slam title already in the bag.
He also won the title this year at the Madrid Masters, so despite not having had the ideal clay court season, Djokovic, who was runner-up last year, can likely be expected to be a finalist this year too.
