Roger Federer serves to Ernests Gulbis in the Round of 16

World No. 2 Roger Federer booked a place in the last eight of the Gerry Weber Open after overcoming Ernests Gulbis 6-3, 7-5.

Federer broke Gulbis’ serve for the first time in the sixth game to go 4-2 up and held his serve to close out the set. The second set saw an exchange of breaks before Federer got the decisive break when the Latvian double faulted at 5-5.

Federer finished things off with a brilliant forehand winner to reach the quarterfinals here. The Swiss meastro, who is aiming for his eighth title in Halle will take on German Florian Mayer in the last eight.

In other matches, Tomas Berdych took care of Croatian Borna Coric 6-3, 6-2. Big serving Ivo Karlovic rallied back from a set down to get the better of Alexander Zverev 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3.
