Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis through to the final of the WTA Finals in Singapore

Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis played the near perfect semifinal

Top seeds Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis cruised their way into the summit clash of the WTA Finals in Singapore, defeating the Chinese Taipei pair of Hao-Chin Chang and Yung-Jan Chang 6-4 6-2 in the semifinal on Saturday.

The opening set saw the Indo-Swiss pair assume control from almost the word go, getting 60% of their first serves in and winning 59% of the first serve points, 7 less than their opponents. But the key stats which made the difference in the end were the second serve points won, with the former winning 55% as compared to 38% of the latter and break points conversion.

Mirza and Hingis clinched one of the two break point chances that came their way as compared to 1 out of 3 of their opponents.

If the first set was a dominating affair, the second one was a blazing affair with the reigning Wimbledon and US Open Women’s Doubles champion winning the opening four games to take full charge. While the Chan sisters did break them once following that, it proved to be too little late as the number 1 seeds closed out the set 6-2 to progress through to the final.

This victory was the Indo-Swiss pair’s 20 consecutive win across all competitions.

They will play the winner of the match between Garbine Muguruza/Carla Suarez-Navarro and Andrea Hlavackova/Lucie Hradecka.
