Serena Williams knocked out of French Open

Serena Williams

Looks like there is no end to upsets at Roland Garros! We are on Day 4 of the tournament and we have already witnessed some of the biggest names on the circuit heading home.

On both the men’s & the women’s draw, several seeds have bitten the red dust.

Stanislas Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori & Li Na were ousted in the first round.

Serena Williams is the defending champion here and looked completely out of sorts against the 20-year old Slovakian Garbine Muguruza.

Her movement on the court as she chased down rallies was less than impressive and the youngster took complete advantage of it.

She committed 29 unforced errors and her first serve percentage showed no signs of improvement as the match progressed. She hit just 8 winners.

Garbine did not look overwhelmed as she took on the No.1 player in the world. Instead, she made it look like another day in the office.

Serena lost in straight sets 2-6, 2-6 without putting up much of a fight. The crowd and the experts alike were expecting a third round clash between the Williams’ sisters.

But who would have bet on the sisters losing, separated only by a few minutes as their mother watched in disbelief.

If the loss of Li Na was a shock, then the exit of Serena Williams is an earthquake.

Venus Williams was earlier beaten by 19-year old Slovakian Anna Schmiedlova 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Talk of teenage power! Two teenagers took center stage today and won the best matches of their career.

With over a week left in the tournament, will we witness many seeds tumbling on their way to the trophy or will sanity prevail on the red clay?
