The WTA Premier event in Stuttgart got underway to a low key start on Monday with only doubles and qualifying matches on the schedule.
India’s Sania Mirza had to pull out of the doubles when her partner Flavia Pennettta withdrew due to a wrist injury. In singles qualifying, Czech Iveta Benesova, former World No. 5 Anna Chakvetadze, Hungarian veteran Great Arn and former top 20 player Alize Cornet booked their spots in the main draw.
