The Shanghai Masters is one of nine Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Masters 1000-point tournaments. It is the only 1000-point tournament outside North America and Europe. It is also the biggest tournament of the Asian leg of ATP tour.
The annual hard court tournament has been played since 2009 and was named the ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year for five consecutive editions from 2009 to 2013. The tournament committee designed three trophies among which they finalized one trophy through online voting. The 2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters will be the 12th edition of the event.

The 2023 Shanghai Masters will be held from October 4 to October 15 at the Qizhong Forest Sports Arena at Shanghai, China.
Defending Champions
2019 was the last edition of the Shanghai Masters. The tournament was not held during 2020 to 2022 period due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From the 2019 edition, Daniil Medvedev is the defending champion. He won the title by defeating Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-1 in the final.
In the Men’s doubles, Mate Pavic and Bruno Soares defeated Marcelo Melo and Lukasz Kubot 6-4, 6-2 to become the men's doubles champions.
Withdrawn players from the Rolex Shanghai Masters 2023
The current world number 1 Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the tournament. Carlos Alcaraz, who is ranked number 2 in the world, will be the top seed at the 2023 edition of the Rolex Shanghai Masters. The defending champ, Daniil Medvedev, will be seeded second.
