CWG weightlifting team retained for Asian Games

The ten member Indian weightlifting team for the Incheon Asian Games will include nine members who competed in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games recently, of which seven won medals in the competition. Sukhen Dey, Sathish Sivalingam and Sanjita Khumukchan brought home gold for India from the CWG. India finished the event in second place with a total of 12 overall weightlifting medals.Five men and five women weightlifters will represent India at the Asiad, to be held in the Korean city from 19th September to 4th October. Kavita Devi is the only lifter who did not go to Glasgow.India had not entered the weightlifting competition at the last Asian Games in Guangzhou and will look to clinch some medals this year in the continental event.The following are the lifters representing India this year:

1.Ravi Kumar Katulu (77kg Men’s)Gold in 69kg at Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. 2.Sukhen Dey (56kg Men’s)Gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. 3.Sathish Kumar Sivalingam (77kg Men’s) Gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. 4.Sanjita Chanu (48kg Women’s)Gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. 5.Mirabai Chanu Saikhom ( 48kg Women’s) 3 Gold Medals at Commonwealth Championships 2013. 3 Silver at Asian Junior Championships, 2014. 3 Bronze at Junior World Weightlifting Championships, 2013. 6.Vikas Thakur (85kg Men’s)2 Silver at Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, 2013. 1 Silver and 2 Bronze at Asian Junior Weightlifting Championship, 2011. 7.Rustam Sarang (62kg Men’s)2 Gold and 1 Silver at Commonwealth Championships, 2011. 8.Punam Yadav (63kg Women’s)3 Bronze at Asian Junior Weightlifting Championships, 2013. 9.Kavita Devi (75 kgs Women’s) 10.Vandana Gupta (69kg Women’s)3 Bronze in 63kg at Commonwealth Championship , 2013
