Chennai, July 28 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa congratulated Satish Kumar Sivalingam for winning a gold medal in weightlifting in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She announced that he will receive the state government's Rs.50 lakh cash prize.
In a congratulatory letter to Sivalingam, she said: "You have done both the nation and the state of Tamil Nadu proud by winning a gold medal and setting a new Commonwealth Games record." She told Sivalingam it was even more remarkable to win the gold at his first international event of this scale.
"As you are aware, I had announced the enhancement of financial reward for sportspersons winning a Commonwealth gold medal to Rs.50 lakh in December, 2011. You will now be eligible to receive this cash incentive," she said.
