India's Satyawart wins Rustam-e-International Wrestling title

Satyawart Kadian of India won the 1 Rustam-e-International Indian style Dangal Wrestling title, notching a win over Belarussian wrestler Ihor Didyk in the final bout in Katra, Jammu, reports siasat.com

The 21-year-old received the winners’ cash prize of â?¹60,000 in addition to a belt and medal. Runner up Didyk received a â?¹40,000 payout.

The event was held in honour of the Indian festival Navratri, which will draw to a close tomorrow, with wrestlers from four countries including India, England, Ukraine and Belarus participating.

In other news from Indian wrestlers on the circuit, Binia Bin of Jammu and Kashmir and Parvindra defeated Ukrainian wrestler Myhailo Datsenko and English wrestler Leon Gregory Rattigan respectively.

33 bouts, of which 8 were fought by female wrestlers, took place at the Vivekanand Sports Stadium in Katra during the event.

Kadian has represented India on the international stage before, winning bronze at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics and silver at the Commonwealth Games in 2014, where he competed in the men’s freestyle 97kg category to take silver.

His father, Satyawan Kadian, is himself an Olympian, having participated in the Games in Seoul, South Korea, in 1988.
