Indian wushu team secures 12 medals at Pars International Cup

India won two medals at the 2014 Asian Games in Wushu

Wushu might not be the most popular sport in India, but it has consistently made the country proud. This time around the national contingent has garnered a 12 medal haul at the International Pars Wushu Cup, being held yesterday.

L Budhachandra Singh secured a gold medal in the 56 kg category, after defeating Masood Ansari from Iran in the final. Mukesh Choudhary lost his final to 2014 Asian Games gold medallist, Mohsen Seifi and Rajani Deori lost to crowd favourite Sajan Abbasi in the final.

The previous edition saw India win only five medals, two silvers and one bronze. Nineteen different countries participated at the annual event. India won two bronze medals at the previous edition of the Asian Games through Yumnam Sanathoi Devi and Narender Grewal. Sanathoi lost to China’s Zhang Luan in the 52 kg category and Grewal lost to Jean Claud Senclaug from the Philippines.

India had even lodged an official complaint against Grewal’s loss as he had pinned his opponent several times.
