5 actual reasons WWE may have suspended Paige and Del Rio

Are they kissing their careers goodbye?
Are they kissing their careers goodbye?

Wrestling fans have been abuzz for the last 24 hours with news about Paige and Del Rio’s double suspension, for violation of the WWE’s wellness policy. Close on the heels of Del Rio’s troubling 30-day suspension which shocked the wrestling fraternity, came the news that his girlfriend was in as much trouble as he was.

Now, this shocking development took place on Paige’s 24th birthday.

We are certain, with WWE’s infamous history, that there’s more to this story than meets the eye. The internet has been full of speculation and they strongly believe that there is much more at play than just ‘the two of them getting high for Paige’s birthday’.

The details are sketchy and we can only speculate. However, here are some rumors that caught our eye, from across the interwebs.

#1 Their lack of value to the company

They're not the same stars they once were
They're not the same stars they once were

Let’s look at the facts here. Paige won the Divas Championship on her debut and became the youngest ever female superstar to do so. Moreover, she was also the only wrestler to hold both the Divas Championship, and NXT Women’s Championship at the same time.

Wait. That's not all.

Alberto Del Rio made a very high profile return last year, defeating John Cena for the U.S. Championship.

Since then, both of these sports entertainers have slid down the totem pole. While many have questioned their suspension, against Lesnar’s non-suspension; they are not very valuable to the company either.

The suspension may be a convenient way of letting them go, in a world where new and more ‘over’ sports entertainers have taken their place. Paige lost her spot to the Four Horsewomen, and Del Rio lost his to the many brand new singles superstars on Smackdown.

The suspension could be WWE’s way of asking them to leave, to make way for new talent.

#2 Their history of troublemaking does not bode well

Us? Troublemakers?

While they do a lovely job of courting one another, the couple has regularly courted trouble as well. Remember the night after ‘Money in the Bank’ when photos of Paige emerged...of her being taken away in handcuffs by the cops?

And that's not all.

Remember the time when Alberto Del Rio was fired from the WWE? This was for slapping a man who made derogatory racist remarks. Justified, of course. But maybe, the WWE management does not want troublemakers in their midst. Maybe, they feel it’s a simpler solution to indirectly coerce them to leave?

#3 Heat with Triple H Backstage

That perro! I’m going to Hunt down Hunter for good

Rumors emerged recently that Alberto Del Rio and Triple H don’t get along. Maybe because of the fact that Del Rio is difficult to deal with, even though he isn't a valuable asset to the brand; it is alleged that Triple H has had major backstage heat with The Pride of Mexico.

And if your boss isn’t happy with you, he's going to find every single loophole in the book to be rid of you. Plus there have been major flaws with Del Rio’s in-ring work too recently, with every single match of his becoming a botch-fest.

Considering all these factors, and the level of talent in today’s current WWE roster; Triple H may have found this way to ‘bury’ him.

#4 Injuries

The most injury prone couple since Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper

In addition to the fact that they’re not setting the WWE universe on fire, Paige and Del Rio have both been very injury prone as well. As we speak, Paige is battling a career threatening injury, and it may be ages before she can make it back to the ring.

Del Rio too has had a spate of injuries, both during his League of Nations tenure as well as after the Money in the Bank PPV.

The WWE schedule is hard and grueling, and it’s only the toughest who can stay at the top of the food chain. As unfair as it is, injuries make you a liability in the eyes of the WWE and make them lose faith in your abilities as a star. It would be unfortunate if this is the reason.

#5 The WWE just likes to mess with its stars

The WWE split Paige and Papi during the brand split

Now, we know that Vince Russo isn’t a source of the most credible information on the internet.

But during one of his podcasts, shortly following the brand split, he mentioned that Paige and Del Rio had been split up on two separate brands simply because the WWE liked to mess with its stars.

And how can we doubt the truthfulness of this, when C.M. Punk was fired on his wedding day from the WWE? It is quite possible that because the WWE has not been very happy with Paige and Del Rio, they’re messing with the couple so that they leave on their own.
