5 booking decisions for Baron Corbin after WWE Payback 2016

Whom should he face next?

The introduction of Baron Corbin into the main roster had so many positives. For a man who dominated down in NXT, WWE had to give a solid introduction and they did just that when they made him win the Andre the Giant battle royal. While many saw it as a fluke, WWE continued booking Corbin strongly in the weeks that followed.

The initial feud of Corbin came against Dolph Ziggler and after Payback, it seems to have ended. Ziggler did get a win, but apparently, it has not cooled down the momentum of Corbin. A new feud is perhaps what he needs now and we list down the possible opponents he could have next.

Big Show

Still has the resume

Big Show might not be an ideal opponent for Corbin on paper, but when it comes to putting over young talent, there aren’t many superstars that could do it better than Big Show. And the best part is that Big Show has a credible resume to show. He has achieved a lot during his time in the wrestling business and whoever gets over him will benefit.

The same applies to someone like Corbin. He is pretty new to the main roster and although Big Show is a bit irrelevant these days, a win over Show would be something special for Corbin. Just imagine the moment when he pulls off his finishing move against Show.

Cesaro

Man in the suit

Baron Corbin currently plays a cocky heel in the roster and it would make sense if he is booked against a babyface in the next feud. Cesaro is one of the most widely supported faces on the roster right now. Ever since he is back from injury, he has been travelling in the right direction and WWE deserves credit for writing him so.

Cesaro is currently in the middle of an Intercontinental championship feud but if Corbin enters into the mix and distracts Cesaro, WWE could still have a three-way battle for the Intercontinental championship. Corbin and Cesaro could then have a feud which could stamp Corbin’s place in the roster as a heel that gets the jeers from the crowd.

Chris Jericho

The genius

We all know how good Chris Jericho is. We all know how good he is with the microphone, we all know how good he is when it comes to performing in between the ropes. In short, he is a genius and the most over heel performer in the current roster.

Turning Jericho into a baby face wouldn’t be a viable option but if WWE starts letting Corbin have shades in his character and let him feud with Jericho, it would be something good.

Corbin could learn a lot from his feud with Jericho and though the microphone department is concerning, all the experience that Jericho comes in with will easily be able to carry the Lone Wolf.

Alberto Del Rio

Del Rio needs a turn

Alberto Del Rio is currently a heel character but the rumor mill suggests that WWE is considering a face turn for him. The split of League of Nations suggests the same and Del Rio is going to need a good feud for his face run.

This is an ideal situation for both the parties. There will be a freshness to the feud thanks to the face run of Del Rio and as we all know, Del Rio is a great in-ring worker as well, and just like most of the other superstars on this list, his experience factor is high. The exposure would be great and no matter who walks out on top, it is a win-win situation for WWE.

Dean Ambrose

Ambrose has some good momentum

As mentioned earlier, Baron Corbin made his main roster appearance as a cocky heel and if there is a cocky face to feud with, it would be a dynamic combination. And the only solid face, who has a twisted cocky attitude along with some good old fan support in the current roster, is probably Dean Ambrose.

He will be coming off a great feud with Chris Jericho if he is to be paired with Corbin soon and he will be bringing in some good hype and momentum along with him. The star power of Ambrose is another thing that Corbin could bank on. And if Corbin is going to get the win, then he will have some major heat from the fans.
