5 comebacks that could happen at Wrestlemania 34

Which Superstars do you want to see at the Superdome
Which Superstars do you want to see at the Superdome

With the Road to Wrestlemania upon us, expect to see some fireworks as new talents begin emerging from the top of the pack in NXT. But as always, the WWE Universe is anticipating the return of some old faces, expeditiously taking the fans back to the glory days, as possible chants of 'You still got it' and 'Welcome back' being heard, roaring around the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans next April.

Whether they are going to lace up their boots or merely make an appearance on the mic, we are eagerly awaiting the return of some of WWE's most legendary names.

Here, I have created a list of potential Superstars who could make a fighting comeback on the grandest stage of them all next year.

#5 The Rock

Could the Great One electrify the millions of his fans once again
Could the Great One electrify the millions of his fans once again

'The Great One' is always welcome back inside the WWE ring to entertain the millions, and millions of The Rock's fans Worldwide. However, after another successful 2017 in Hollywood for Dwayne, becoming the second highest paid actor of the year, earning roughly $65 million, is it likely he'll wish to lay the smackdown, on anyone in that locker room ever again?

Apart from making a non-televised appearance after RAW went off air at the Staples Center back in February this year, to call CM Punk on his cell phone in front of 15,000 screaming fans. The Rock hasn't been seen on air since April 2016 at Wrestlemania 32, when he set the record for the fastest win in Wrestlemania history, hitting Erick Rowan with the Rock Bottom and picking up a quick victory, ultimately fighting off the Wyatt Family with an assist from John Cena.

However, who can forget Wrestlemania 31, and The Rock standing side by side with female UFC star Ronda Rousey, against Triple H and his wife Stephanie McMahon.

It may be wishful thinking, but it would be truly electrifying seeing The Rock back inside the squared circle again, especially if it was to go one on one with his former nemesis, 'The Game' Triple H.

#4 Hulk Hogan

The Land of the Immortals always has a special place for the Hulkster
The Showcase of the Immortals always has a special place for the Hulkster

Hulk Hogan undoubtedly has had one of the most storied and influential careers in the wrestling world. 'Hulkamania' first swept the wrestling nation in the early-mid 1980's, giving birth to the 'Hulkamaniacs' and becoming the most popular feature in professional wrestling. Hogan had an integral part in making Vince McMahon's company a national and ultimately, a global success. The twelve-time World Champion will be forever immortalised in the industry.

However, his career has not been without controversy, most noticeably after July 2015 when WWE not only terminated their contract with the Hulkster, but also revoked his Hall of Fame status and deleted his presence from their website and merchandise from their online shops. This was of course due to the leaked sex tape which had recorded Hogan making provocative language and racial slurs.

Wrestling fans across the globe will have their own opinions and thoughts about Hulk Hogan, but it can't be denied that many fans and peers within the business want to see 'Hulkamania' run wild once again in the WWE one day. It remains to be seen if the legend will return, however, fans that would like to see this happen, must be feeling more positive about this prospect in recent months.

His name, which seemed like a profanity when used in the WWE a couple of years ago, is now being mentioned more frequently. Triple H, the Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative, has always been vocal about a potential comeback for Hogan.

Maybe the two men, who have headlined Wrestlemania the most times in history, might meet at 'The Show of Shows' next year.

#3 Rey Mysterio

Will there be chants of 619 at the Superdome
Will there be chants of 619 at the Superdome

The master of the 619 might be the 'Ultimate Underdog', but not when it comes to potential returns to the WWE. Rey Mysterio has always been a fan favourite, accomplishing more than anyone could have expected, being only 5'6 and 175 lbs.

He has held a catalogue of championships throughout his career. The peak of his success came in 2006, as the second entry into the Royal Rumble, eventually lasting 62 minutes, a Royal Rumble record, and winning to then go on to become World Heavyweight Champion at Wrestlemania 22 the same year.

Rey Mysterio went on to win more championships in WWE, including his second World Heavyweight Championship reign in June 2010.and his first WWE Title reign in July 2011. He would eventually say goodbye to the WWE after nearly 13 years with the company, to move onto pastures new and made his return to AAA, 20 years after leaving. Mysterio has been involved in many exciting matches since leaving WWE, some could say, reigniting his career.

But Rey Mysterio said himself, 'You never say never' which is why I've got him firmly in my list. The 42-year-old might enjoy a more spread out schedule on the independent scene, however, he wouldn't need to return necessarily to a weekly programming, maybe just a match at the 'Showcase of the Immortals' would be enough.

#2 Rob Van Dam

Will he be cleared to fly once again at the Superdome
Will he be cleared to fly once again at the Superdome

Voted by WWE fans the greatest star in ECW history, it's no surprise that the fans would love the taste of one last Five Star Frog Splash from one of their most beloved Superstars of all time.

Rob Van Dam has had a career that has spread over 25 years, first competing between the independent circuit and WCW. He didn't really gain notoriety until his days in ECW and his battles with Sabu, who he later teamed up with. RVD went on to win championships in ECW, WWE and TNA and is the only wrestler to have held the ECW World championship, WWE championship and TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

After a brief return to the WWE, which only lasted just over a year, Van Dam again entered the independent circuit, having matches with Scott Steiner, John Morrison, and Pentagon Jr. Van Dam is scheduled to compete in a tour next year with 5 Star Wrestling, alongside my last entry into this list. However, could RVD also be a participant in the biggest show of the wrestling calendar?

The makers of WWE 2K18 seemed to think so, but do the concussions he picked up last year rule him out? Hopefully not as the possibilities are endless. There are countless feuds that RVD could be booked in -- both in the mid-card and the title picture. Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, and AJ Styles would make for some great matches.

#1 The Undertaker

Will the Superdome succumb to darkness at the hands of the Deadman
Will the Superdome succumb to darkness at the hands of the Deadman

Okay, so honestly, there are a few Superstars I could have put as number one on my list. Never count WWE out, when it comes to pulling a few names out from the grave prior to the Mania season. But of course, number one on this list has to be 'the Deadman' himself.

It is true, that his seemingly unbreakable streak came to an end against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 30. And then he suffered another loss to Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 33, which many of the fans see as a 'passing of the torch' moment, much to partial dismay of the WWE Universe. But it can't ever be denied that 'The Phenom' is one of the most legendary names associated with Wrestlemania history.

His career has been iconic, stretching over three decades and accomplishing what aspiring Superstars could only dream of. His seven World Heavyweight Championship victories are a testament to that. However, The Undertaker was one of those captivating characters, that truly did not need gold to be successful.

Since his loss against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 33, in a somewhat underwhelming contest, many fans have been back and forth, some acknowledging that the torch has been passed, with his gloves, coat and hat being laid firmly on the mat. However, there are others that believe 'the Deadman; will rise once again and seek vengeance on those of his choosing and reclaim back his yard.

Maybe a potential Triple Threat Match between Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and the Undertaker for the WWE Universal Championship at Wrestlemania 34 anyone?
