5 reasons Goldberg winning the Rumble would be bad for business

The man, and everyone else, are better off without him winning the Royal Rumble

The fans think it will happen, the dirt sheets are speculating and the odds look favourable, apparently Goldberg is going to win this year’s Royal Rumble, unfortunately.

After making a shocking WWE return after 12 years in the wilderness, Goldberg has somehow rocketed straight to the top of the mountain and no one can seemingly stop him.

The former WCW Champion looks set to have a date with the main event of Wrestlemania 33, how he gets there is up to Vince, but I sure as hell hope he doesn't get there through winning the Rumble. I can't begin to explain to you how bad it would be if Goldberg won the Royal Rumble, but I'm going to at least try.

Here are 5 reasons why Goldberg winning the Rumble would be bad for business.

#5 He and Lesnar have unfinished business

While Goldberg left for 12 years, Lesnar dominated the UFC and WWE

There's nothing wrestling fans hate more than an unfinished storyline. We know Goldberg is overall 2-0 up on Brock Lesnar, we also know that that's not how things end in the WWE. There's no way the WWE will deprive one of their most prized assets a chance at reversing his lopsided win-loss record.

We all know the two will continue their feud soon, so why not have it done OUTSIDE of the title picture. Use the rumble match as a way to further develop their storyline, without having Goldberg shamefully win it.

#4 It devalues the rest of the roster

The fact that a 50-year old man who hasn't wrestled in 12 years, can walk into the biggest wrestling company in the world and beat the most protected wrestler on the roster is an absolute disgrace.

On top of that, him winning the rumble would be an even bigger slap in the face of all the legitimately talented workers in the company.

Think of the names that have tried to beat Lesnar clean over the past two years: John Cena, Seth Rollins, The Undertaker, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns have all failed, but Goldberg succeeded in record time, how?

The one beast that tore through EVERYONE, was beaten by a 50-year old in two minutes. What was the point of the previous two years of booking? I genuinely cannot see what Bill brings that the current roster doesn't.

He's not a draw, he's not a star attraction, he's just a washed-up wrestler that was incredibly pushed back in the day. If he can waltz in and do what several others can't, it makes the rest of the roster look worthless.

People complain that the WWE doesn't create enough new stars but then are happy when ex-stars come in and devalue the current ones. Talk about being counter-productive.

#3 Nobody wants to see Goldberg as a World Champion

Goldberg is a former World Heavyweight Champion

I follow a lot of people on social media and a lot of them have extreme wrestling opinions, but I still haven’t seen one person say they want to see Goldberg as WWE Universal Champion. What kind of reign would he even give us?

A few appearances every two months, a sub-par promo and a two-minute match, yeah, that'll really be a pop for the ratings, won't it? Goldberg literally does nothing for the current title scene, he certainly won't elevate it, neither will he provide anything different.

A 50-year old Goldberg as WWE Universal Champion in the year of 2017, does nobody any favours.

If Vince so heavily insists on pushing Goldberg as the main cornerstone of Monday Night Raw, then have him mix and dabble with the show's best heels instead.

Book him to have physical contests with the likes of Rusev, the New Day, Sheamus and even Titus O'Neil. Use what's left of his dwindling star power to put over younger superstars, rather than continue to put them down.

#2 He doesn't deserve it

Goldberg was first an NFL player before being a wrestler

Off the top of my head, I can literally name 20 other superstars who would be more deserving of a Royal Rumble win than Goldberg.

A 2-minute match with Brock Lesnar does not warrant winning the third biggest pay-per-view of the year. Two minutes of wrestling compared to a year's worth of nightly grafting from the current roster is ridiculous.

Part-timers rush into the company around Wrestlemania season and capitalise on all the hard work put in by the active wrestlers. Instead of seeing the root issue, some will justify their presence with silly reasons. Why does it matter that Goldberg has a kid?

Plenty of wrestlers on the roster have children, and they see their Dad job out every single week. I just can't get my head around the appeal of Goldberg in 2017. It's a new year, a new age, a new era. Get with the times.

#1 The fan backlash would be vicious

Goldberg winning would receive a backlash

If you thought the #CancelTheNetwork backlash was bad, wait for the one that will erupt if Goldberg wins. When Roman Reigns won the Royal Rumble in 2014, he was greeted with boos, boos and more boos.

The fans refused to acknowledge the win and took their frustration with Vince out on the Samoan. Despite the backlash, the WWE still persisted in making Reigns their top guy, sadly things haven't worked out.

Now imagine how bad the reaction would be, with fans knowing the WWE will do what they always want anyway, this time people may actually cancel their network. Because when you get presented with the same content over and over again, knowing it won't change, an anger inside you burns like no other.

It was a bad booking decision in 2014, it's going to be a bad one on the 29th.
