5 reasons the WWE needs to put Sasha Banks and Charlotte in a Hell in a Cell

Is it time for women inside “The Devil’s Playground?”

Dating back to 1997, the WWE has produced 33 Hell In A Cell matches. At the time of writing, both the first and last featured The Undertaker. In total, “The Deadman” has been featured in fourteen Hell In A Cell matches, five more than the next closest in Triple H.

Undertaker has won eight of those matches, followed Triple H once more, who has five wins. If you trace back the history of the Hell In A Cell match, you’ll see names such as Ryback, Cody Rhodes, Paul Heyman and even Vince McMahon himself (who holds a 0-1 record inside the Cell).

But one thing you won’t see? The name of a woman.

Rumours are flying that the WWE is looking to put Sasha Banks and Charlotte inside of the “Demonic Device.” It’s time for the WWE to do just that, as 2016 presents the perfect opportunity in Boston when the Raw brand presents WWE Hell In A Cell.

#5 2016 Is The Year Divas Became Women Again

The Butterfly Belt is no more in 2016

In 2015, the WWE pulled Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Becky Lynch over to the main roster from NXT. That move completely changed the dynamic of the (then) Divas division, as part of what was termed a “Divas Revolution.”

The aforementioned women went on to compete in a featured contest at WWE WrestleMania 32, a match that saw all three of their images plastered upon AT&T Stadium alongside Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and John Cena.

It was also on that night that the WWE renamed the Divas Championship, calling it the Women’s Championship and replacing the “butterfly belt” with a white version of the then-WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The renaming of the division was to show that women in the WWE were “Superstars,” just like the men.

What better step to take than to put the women inside a structure that has been exclusively reserved for men for nearly two decades.

#4 Women Have Already Appeared In WWE Main Event Matches

Bayley and Sasha Banks appeared in the main event of WWE NXT Takeover: Respect

While a women’s Hell In A Cell match likely wouldn’t serve as the main event of the pay-per-view event holding the same name (although that may not be out of the question), the structure itself signifies that a feud has escalated to the level of importance typically reserved for a main-event match.

Sasha Banks and Bayley already performed in the main event of NXT Takeover Respect, in the WWE’s first ever women’s Ironman match. The October 3 edition of WWE Raw saw Sasha Banks regain the Raw Women’s Championship from Charlotte in the main event.

The company has shown the ability to depend on female performers in a big way, and it’s time for them to depend on them to carry on the tradition and intensity of one of their most well-known gimmick matches.

#3 Charlotte and Sasha Banks Are Capable Of Delivering A Great Hell In A Cell Match

Sasha Banks always delivers, as seen here against Dana Brooke

Hell In A Cell is a dangerous match, but it is also one that has produced countless memorable moments. From the outlandish dives of Mick Foley and Shane McMahon to the “hanging” of The Big Bossman and the image of Kane ripping off the cage door, this match has given fans jaw-dropping, edge-of-our-seats experiences that will not soon be forgotten.

Sasha Banks and Charlotte have faced each other numerous times, both one-on-one and in multi-woman matches. There is plenty of proof that they can deliver in the ring, and possess the chemistry to make that delivery in any style of match.

Both women are credible performers for the Hell In A Cell match. Them being in the Cell is believable, more so than any pairing of female competitors before them (and that’s coming from the person who advocated for Charlotte vs. Nikki Bella in Hell In A Cell last year).

#2 WWE Hell In A Cell Is In Sasha Banks’ Hometown

Sasha Banks’ hometown would be the perfect site for this historic encounter

This match would have a lot of hype, to begin with, but when you add in the factor that the event is hosted at the TD Garden in her hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, it goes up to another level. The fan support behind Sasha Banks, and thus the emotional investment by the live crowd in the match itself, would be amazing.

And while any match has the potential to be great, a match in front of a vocal, emotionally invested crowd has the potential to be remembered for years to come.

#1 The Feud Warrants It

There is no better pair of women to wrestle in the Cell than these two

When Rusev and Roman Reigns were announced for Hell In A Cell, it made sense. Their feud has been ongoing for months, escalating with each confrontation. Despite the championship involved being “secondary” in nature, Reigns and Rusev have been positioned in a way that makes their issue “worthy” of Hell In A Cell. That’s how they’ve been booked.

If you can accept that point, then it’s hard to ignore this: the feud between Sasha Banks and Charlotte is further escalated than that of Rusev and Roman Reigns. This isn’t even about men or women. These two wrestlers have a rivalry that has at times been competitive and at times way more than that. In fact, it might be the most deeply rooted, hate-fueled feud in the company today.

That is the type of feud that Hell In A Cell deserves to settle, and Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte deserves to take place inside Hell In A Cell.

In fact, it shouldn’t be a question of if it happens, but whether it serves as the main event.
