5 Storylines for Cesaro if he joins SmackDown Live

Back and forth tweets between SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan and Raw Superstar Cesaro have set the WWE Universe alight with excitement. Since the draft took place on July 17th Cesaro seems to have been lost in the shuffle on Monday nights.

On the day of the draft, Cesaro went on a rant filled with frustration and raw (excuse the pun) emotion. Daniel Bryan on Talking Smack claimed RAW were not utilising Cesaro enough and he deserved more opportunities. Cesaro, who I feel is a main-event level talent, would provide interesting and fresh matchups for the SmackDown brand. I've taken a look at where the Swiss Superman would fit into the SmackDown's roster and who he'd most likely feud with.

5: Randy Orton

In his first match against Orton, Cesaro defeated him clean on SmackDown.

The last time these two locked up they put on a 5* star match that left the WWE Universe drooling. If not for the storyline this feud should happen just for the great wrestling and athletic ability that would be displayed. I wouldn't mind seeing a best of seven series between these two great athletes. Imagine the reversal of an RKO into a European uppercut, just imagine.

Perhaps for this feud, we could turn Randy heel, he would be a despicable heel that knows he's good in the ring but always takes shortcuts to gain a win. As a heel, it would hurt Randy less to eventually put Cesaro over. The premise of this feud would be action and wrestling rather character building or promos. This pairing would have great matches, a definitive face vs. heel dynamic and Cesaro would be elevated. What's there not to love?

4: Apollo Crews

Apollo Nation vs the Cesaro Section?

Two men, despite their amazing athletic physiques, struggling to find their place on the card. Both men with points to prove, they pride themselves in carrying out incredible feats of strength that mere mortals cannot. But they cannot co-exist together on the same show, there's only room for one amazing athlete looking to steal the show every week.

Apollo's WWE career has started off in a lukewarm fashion with his most memorable moment being Daniel Bryan getting his name wrong. Crews needs some type of identity because at the moment he's getting lost in the shuffle. Perhaps a possible heel turn would add another dimension to his character. He could portray an aggressive figure that doesn't let anybody walk all over him anymore, he's taking what he thinks should be his.

A feud against Cesaro would help Crews gain a place on the card and let him fully introduce himself to the WWE Universe from both a wrestling & personality viewpoint. Cesaro & Crews would have very physical and athletic matches, fun for all.

3: John Cena

Cesaro is a former US Champion.

Cena has said many a time that the future must go through him, to get to the next level. Cesaro despite his several years on the roster is still classified as 'one for the future'. Many are waiting for Cesaro to finally grab that brass ring and proving himself against Cena would certainly achieve that. He & Cena have repeatedly torn the house down on several occasions over the past few years, why not do it again?

I'd love to see a feud built around Cena getting at Cesaro for not being the superstar he should be. This would spur Cesaro to finally recognise that this is his time to step up. If he can't go toe to toe with the face of the company then there's no point him being there. It's now or never for him to fulfil his potential.

Of course, a face vs. face feud is always hard to pull off as one man will always be elevated above the other, but if these two can create a mentor - student type dynamic, it could be a compelling storyline. Cena's status in the company would make it believable as he's earned the right to act as a mentor towards the rest of the roster. He would demand that Cesaro pushes himself to the limit in a 'step up or step aside' scenario.

2: AJ Styles

The Phenomenal One and Cesaro could put on quite a show

Just imagine the matches these two would have. The Champion has just gotten past John Cena & Dean Ambrose, who else is there for him to face? Only the best technical wrestler in the WWE. Everybody's two favourite wrestlers from a technical standpoint locking it up in the centre of ring is the IWC's dream. The feud would be centred around Cesaro's need to apply his ability to the situation, to deliver under pressure.

Yes, Cesaro you may have the ability and all the attributes but do you have the mentality to become champion, to defeat the undisputed world champion of SmackDown.

Assuming Styles is still champion after Survivor Series heading into the new year. Cesaro would be a perfect 2-PPV feud that would truly elevate the title again. When you have the two best wrestlers on the roster giving their all for the championship it can only result in awe-inspiring television.

1: Bray Wyatt

The Eater Of Worlds could be the perfect foil for Cesaro to shine

The face of fear vs. the Swiss Superman in a tale that could ONLY be played out on WWE television. Despite his mysterious & wizardry antics, we all know that Bray Wyatt is a beast in the ring and a feud against Cesaro would remind the casual audience of his in-ring ability. The storyline could be played out as Wyatt singling Cesaro out as the ‘the one who holds all the cards,’ the one who portrays hope for the average man.

Wyatt could face off against Cesaro over a series of matches where Bray plays psychological mind games, almost tormenting the Swiss Superman to give up his craft. The feud would add more personality to Cesaro as right now he’s only known as the guy who can wrestle good, this would give fans a reason to emotionally invest in him.
