5 Things you need to know about Ember Moon

Meet NXT’s new women’s star Ember Moon
Meet NXT’s new women’s star Ember Moon

The enchanting Ember Moon debuted at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II on SummerSlam weekend. She impressed and wowed the hard-to-please Brooklyn crowd in her bout against Billie Kay. With Bayley now having departed for the Raw roster, Ember Moon is just what the NXT women’s division needed. She has a unique build to her; her overall look helping her standout. The fact she has indy wrestling experience doesn’t hurt her credibility at all.

As unique and exotic as she is, Moon’s character is a mystery. Who is she? Where did she come from? Hardcore Indy fans know for sure, but for the casual fan, it piques their interest. There is plenty of hype behind the newest face in the NXT Women’s Division. Her debut showed that she can back the hype up, and there is more to come from this NXT star. The pressure will definitely be on for Moon as Bayley left a void in the already depleted Women’s Division thanks to the WWE Draft in July. Moon is sure to be up for the challenge and her journey at the forefront has just started.

To answer the previous questions, who is she exactly? Here are five things you should know about this star.

5: Trained by Hall of Famers

That’s right! Moon has come from the school that is run by none other than WWE Hall of Famer Booker T. She started out as a student at the former Pro Wrestling Alliance back in 2007. From there she would wrestle throughout Texas, adding experience to what would become a stacked resume. She wrestled under the name Athena and was nicknamed the “The Goddess” which was given to her by pro wrestling legend Skandor Akbar. He also had a hand in training Moon, providing discipline and old school wisdom. She would credit Akbar for much of her success in the squared circle.

4: Wrestling influences

Moon’s influences include former Divas Chyna, Victoria, and Trish Stratus

Moon grew up as a huge wrestling fan, and through the early years, she was influenced by several WWE Superstars. In the past, she has cited The Rock and former WWE Divas Victoria, Chyna, and Trish Stratus as her biggest influences in wrestling. With the former Divas, their influence can be seen when you look at Moon. From her mysterious look, to build and to innovating wrestling moves, should it come as a surprise that she looks up to all of them? It absolutely makes sense, and it works for her. All she needs now is some bling around her waist, and it may come sooner than we think. Could she be the one to hand Asuka her first loss?

3: Worth the wait

Moon wrestled on house shows and in dark matches before making her televised debut

While Moon made her debut at Takeover Brooklyn, it was actually her televised debut. Moon signed with the company in September of 2015 and only wrestled in dark matches and house shows until her debut at Brooklyn. She wrestled her first match with the NXT a month after signing with them and her character evolved to Ember Moon during this time. It is said that sometimes the best things are worth waiting for and in the case of Moon that seems to be true. WWE bided their time with her debut in the Women’s Division, and she made her debut just in the nick of time.

2: Impressive Indy resume

Moon had
alot
of hype behind her in the Indy scene

Moon was one of those independent wrestlers who gained more and more hype as the years went on until WWE had no option but to come calling. That is pretty remarkable, for a female wrestler but it shows that the women’s revolution is well and truly under way. She wrestled for Shimmer Women Athletes for five years, wrestling the best women on the Indy scene. Moon also wrestled for various other promotions including Women Superstars Uncensored, Ring of Honor, and Shine Wrestling to name a few. Her time in those promotions created much buzz and would eventually lead her to WWE. And last but not least, her PWI rankings speak for themselves, which is an added bonus and absolutely worked in her favor.

1: That finisher

Whatever it may be called, the fact is that it is a dominating finisher

That diving corkscrew stunner we all saw at Takeover Brooklyn II was a great moment that wowed the crowd. In the Independent scene, she called the move, The O Face. It's doubtful WWE/NXT will let her keep that name, but regardless, it’s a great finisher and one that the NXT Women’s Division ought to fear. Moon hasn’t publically commented on how she came up with the move, but with only John Cena recently bringing the Springboard Stunner to life one would think of Stone Cold Steve Austin. Either way, The O Face is a cool finisher and one that fans will look forward to her performing.
