Daniel Bryan announces WWE live events in India, set for January 15 & 16, 2016

Daniel Bryan was the special guest at the press conference today

The conference began with a testimonial video and given how great the production and post-production team of the WWE is, it set the mood aptly for what was to follow. The announcements they made will come to receive ample fanfare given the huge reach of the WWE in India.

Gerrit Meier, President, WWE International reflected upon the partnership WWE and India has had for the past 19 years since their first broadcast in 1996.

The announcements

The superstars in attendance will be John Cena, Sheamus, Cesaro, Dean Ambrose, Ryback and the Big Show. Hold your breath! Here are the details as to the what and where.

Ten Sports has been the face of WWE in India and in the day’s first big announcement they stated that they have renewed their contract with the channel till 2019.

If that’s great, wait for the greatest announcement of all time.

Finally, after 13 years, WWE is holding two live events in the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium with a capacity of 20,000 on the 15th and 16th of January 2016.

The tickets are available right now. They’re called the ‘Early Bird Tickets’ and they’ve been on since 1 pm today and will go on till November 7th.

What May Follow

Rajesh Sethi, CEO Ten Sports Network was clearly channeling the excitement this announcement is soon going to generate among fans.

Someone asked whether The Great Khali was going to be there too, obviously oblivious to the fact that he’s been released, to which Meier succinctly responded,” The Great Khali will not be there.” The attention to Khali did not stop there.

There were already questions about how WWE plans to build the next Great Khali. Sethi reverted to the question by talking about the Big Show. Well, it’s going to be Show’s second live event in India. Surely, something worth noting.

Meier also noted that some consumer products like gaming and merchandise will also make their way soon but that announcement will follow later. The announcement for the live events had already consumed everybody’s attention.

After TNA, WWE made sure to state that India is of ‘top priority’ and a ‘key region’ in their business. That’s quite understandable since we are already getting WWE Raw Live in India every Tuesday morning and multilingual shows on the shows. Zee Cinema is already airing Action Mania in Hindi.

Next year may be a landmark year for WWE and India with these two live events.
