Is Vince McMahon in pole position to take over?

What's the story?

In a recent turn of events, the current owner of Premier League football club Newcastle United, Mike Ashley, has put the club up for sale and fans on Twitter are going wild. In fact, many fans have called for Vince McMahon to take ownership of their prestigious club. You can check out the tweets below.

In case you didn't know...

Vince McMahon has been linked with buying Newcastle United for quite some time, with various reports surfacing in 2011 and 2014. The Toon army, which is what the fans call themselves, have been hoping for McMahon to buy their team ever since.

The heart of the matter

Mike Ashley, the current owner of Newcastle United, has put the club up for sale and fans are going wild. The fans have voiced their opinion of Mike Ashley on previous occasions and it hasn't been pretty.

However, Ashley's recent decision to sell the club has sent the fans into an uproar, with fans already beginning to speculate who their new owner will be, and you won't believe who they've chosen: our very own Vince McMahon.

The dream of the fans to see the CEO of the WWE as the owner of the club is clearly visible by the number of tweets that have been pouring in and as you can see above. The big question is: will Vince break the bank?

What's next?

As of now, Mike Ashley is still the owner of Newcastle United and is still in charge of how things will proceed at the club. However, this could soon change and the fans aren't afraid to celebrate it.

Even a club legend like Alan Shearer and former player Faustino Asprilla have begun to rejoice at the good news. However, it is extremely unlikely that Vince McMahon will purchase the club.

Author's take

Personally, as a fan of both football/soccer and the WWE, I wouldn't want to see Vince McMahon as the owner of Newcastle United. Sure, the man has done a great job with the WWE, but a football team is a whole different ballgame.
