Former WWE star most likely to return this year

A big return on the cards?

For the fans who have been optimistic of Rey Mysterio returning to WWE’s fold, latest updates would bring a broad smile to your face.

According to Wrestling Observer, close friends of Rey Mysterio have revealed that it is only a matter of time before the masked superstar makes a huge WWE return. It is said that Rey would leave his current company, Lucha Underground and would be returning sometime this year.

The burning question, though, is whether he would return before the third season of LU or after that is scheduled to go into production by March and premier by September.

You might wonder why Rey is holding back onto AAA – a company he still makes appearances for – and has not returned by now. The reason is because the promotion is reportedly lagging behind on payments and Mysterio wants all his dues cleared before he moves on.

The situation is similar to Alberto Del Rio’s, who also walked out on AAA and returned to the WWE due to pending dues.

It should be noted, Konnan revealed on his podcast that Mysterio is up for a part-time contract with the WWE and if things work out as planned, the former WWE Champion would be back soon.

A year back, Mysterio squashed all inhibitions of returning to the WWE, but fast forward a year later – and with the current monetary situations of other promotions in a precarious position – the masked luchador is interested in making the jump back to his former company.
