John Cena talks his deal with McMahon about movies, Edge talks new career

John Cena will be seen in the upcoming comedy ‘Sisters’

In a recent article, The New York Times took a look at pro wrestlers in recent times, going out to have success in Hollywood. The list includes John Cena’s recent movie roles and Batista in James Bond, Kevin Nash in Magic Mike and Edge in Haven as well as The Flash.

As part of the article, John Cena spoke with the NY Times and looked back on his start in the movies space as part of the WWE Studios productions The Marine and 12 Rounds.

Cena admitted to the action genre not being a great fit on him, citing excessive scripting and choreographing being limitations. “Doing action wasn’t a real good fit for me because it’s the opposite of how I work. It was extremely choreographed and extremely scripted.” said Cena.

On his recent time off to film FOX reality show ‘American Grit’, Cena confirmed that his WWE career is his no.1 priority, but his relationship with Vince McMahon allows him a certain leeway to pick and choose opportunities that doesn’t need him to be away from WWE for too long.

“I try to do opportunities that can really help expand our audience and bring new eyes to our product.” said the 15-time WWE world champion.

Also speaking to the NYT, Edge commented the following on his new career:

“I’m still laughing at the end of a 14-hour day. Before, at the end of a 14-hour day, I’m driving to the next town after having just fallen off a ladder. Now I get to go back to a trailer where there’s a meal waiting for me? Yeah, I can handle that.”
