WWE News: Goldberg's promo on Raw not scripted?

Goldberg on Monday Night Raw

Bill Goldberg returned to the WWE on Monday Night Raw after being away for over 12 years and accepted Paul Heyman’s challenge to face Brock Lesnar. The date for the said encounter is yet to be announced. The spine-chilling promo that he cut in the ring upon his return, apparently, was not scripted at all.

Goldberg last wrestled for the WWE in a match against the same opponent he is scheduled to wrestle next, Brock Lesnar. Goldberg got the better of the Beast Incarnate in the said encounter that took place at Wrestlemania 20. The match was lacklustre and is still remembered for all the wrong reasons.

But all that was forgotten as Goldberg’s iconic entrance theme music hit and he marched his way towards the ring in a typical Goldberg fashion. The audience at the Pepsi Center, Denver, Colorado were loud in their appreciation for Goldberg as the “Goldberg Goldberg” chants took over the arena.

Also, present in the audience were Goldberg’s wife and son.

Goldberg proceeded to cut a promo where he talked about being away from the WWE and stated the reason for returning. He then accepted Paul Heyman’s challenge to face Brock Lesnar and exclaimed:

“So Brock Lesnar, not only does that mean you’re next but most importantly, it means, Brock Lesnar, you’re last!’

The promo was very passionate and made people wonder if it was scripted or not. According to Ringside news, WWE did not script the promo. He was given bullet points and told to go out there and do his thing. Eric Bischoff later confirmed the same.

The way things work today are quite different, though. A lot of talent are instructed to go as per the script, word-by-word. But that was not done in this case with Goldberg on Monday night.

The crowd seemed to strongly get behind Goldberg and cheered for him all throughout. The veteran seemed overwhelmed with emotions and showed gratitude by indulging himself with the people present in the audience.

It remains to be seen how WWE goes ahead with the feud and what is gonna be the eventual date for the showdown. For now, things seem to be moving on track and the overwhelming response for the returning veteran was heartwarming, to say the least.
