NXT News: Hideo Itami injured, potentially out for months

It looks like the Japanese sensation just can’t seem to catch a break

It looks like Hideo Itami just can’t seem to catch a break. He returned a couple of months ago from an injury that put him out of action for over a year. He was feuding with Austin Aries, whom he confronted and gave the GTS to at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn. He was also set to team up with fellow-Japanese sensation Kota Ibushi for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.According to Ryan Satin of the Pro Wrestling Sheet, Itami supposedly injured his neck at an NXT Live event on October 1st in a match where he teamed up with Shinsuke Nakamura to take on Riddick Moss and Tino Sabatelli. The injury occurred when a power slam went wrong and Riddick Moss slammed him against his neck. The clip below shows the moment it happened. Warning, it’s not easy to watch

As mentioned, he was set to team up with Kota Ibushi for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, but will now most likely be unable to. It also appears that he was going to be facing Austin Aries at NXT Takeover: Toronto, that is unless he and Kota had made it to the semi-finals, as the semi-finals and finals, both take place on the show. While Ryan Satin did note that there was no exact word on where he got injured, the neck area is what is being reported. Looking at the video, it would be safe to assume that the neck was the area that would be injured. What is quite surprising about his Itami’s injuries in the WWE is that he wrestled a far stiffer style in Japan and presumably took neck bumps a lot more as well. However, it should be noted that he would have been well aware that he was going to be taking neck bumps there. It does appear that he was already ready for the main roster in more ways than just one. NXT is all about the developmental aspect, but unfortunately, in some cases such as this, injury prevails, and in some cases, the greenness of talent can be an aspect to that. In this case, Itami was definitely not expecting that to happen
