WWE News: NXT Star Buddy Murphy sports new look

Bloody Murphy?

NXT superstar Buddy Murphy is a former NXT Tag Team Champion along with Wesley Blake. Of the two, he has been widely considered to have a lot of potential as a singles star. Around May, in a match against Shinsuke Nakamura and Austin Aries the team had broken up after losing, once Alexa Bliss left the team.

Murphy has been a singles star since. Recently in an NXT house show, the former NXT Tag Team Champion sported a new look:

As mentioned above, the team of Blake and Murphy split up around May when Alexa Bliss left the group. She seems to be doing much better for herself, as she is now not only on the Smackdown Live roster but is also the Number One Contender for the Smackdown Women’s Championship.

She was supposed to face champion Becky Lynch at No Mercy, but due to the latter having an undisclosed injury, was pulled from the event. The match is now set to take place on November 8th at the Smackdown Live episode from Glasgow.

Murphy, along with Blake, has been more or less enhancement talent since losing their NXT Tag Team Championships to The Vaudevillains last year in the first edition of NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.

After breaking up, they kept attempting to get back together, but could not come to terms with their differences and have been singles stars on the yellow brand since. Their attempt to get into the Second Annual Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was foiled as they had another dissension in front of NXT General Manager William Regal.

Murphy and Wesley Blake had faced off in the main event of last week’s episode of NXT, but the match(which was not very well received by the crowd) had come to a halt after former NXT Champion Samoa Joe came out and viciously attacked both men as part of his storyline agenda to scare William Regal into giving the NXT Championship back to him.

This happened after he kayfabe injured Nakamura. Essentially, the former NXT Tag Team Champions had a “boiling point” match which was just used as a stepping stone for the main event picture.

A gimmick change should help a talent like Buddy Murphy further his singles run and take the next step.
