Central to all of this pandemonium is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, the man who has transcended the squared circle to the silver screen, becoming the highest-paid actor in the world for 2016 in the process.

The trailer itself features Johnson’s character being released from prison with the goal of hunting down traitor Dom (played by Vin Diesel) who has turned on his former crew mates.

The ‘Fast and the Furious’ series is an American franchise that centres heavily around the practice of illegal street racing and the use of modified muscle cars to complete death-defying heists.

The Rock first debuted in the fifth instalment – Fast 5 – where he received high praise for his portrayal of Luke Hobbs, a DSS agent pursuing the crew for arrest. He has subsequently reprised his role in all of the following films.

‘The Fate of the Furious’ – confirmed for an April 14th release date – has a lot to live up to, with its predecessor in the series, Furious 7, being the first of the films to gross over $1 billion at the box office. It will be interesting to see, therefore, if this latest outing will live up to the hype that the record-setting trailer has instigated.
