WWE News: World Title plans for AJ Styles

What is next for The Champ that runs the camp?

AJ Styles has clearly gotten the support of the WWE officials this year very rapidly. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter said that WWE intended for The Phenomenal One to be a mid carder at best, but his reactions on televisions, at house shows, and his merchandise sales changed their minds completely, and he was then seen as one of the top five acts.

And it can be seen in the fact that he has pinned John Cena three times and won the company’s top prize within less than 9 months of his debut. At Summerslam, AJ Styles defeated John Cena clean to end that rivalry(for the time being), and the next month at Backlash AJ Styles defeated Dean Ambrose to win the WWE World Championship.

At No Mercy, AJ Styles defeated both Cena and Ambrose in a Triple Threat match to retain the WWE World Championship. The question is: What’s next for The Phenomenal One?

Logic should state that he will move on to the next opponent. However, RingSide News reported that The Phenomenal One will defend the World Championship against Dean Ambrose in a short-term feud heading into Survivor Series.

Whether he will defend the title at Survivor Series or will be participating in the proposed 5-on-5 Survivor Series Raw vs Smackdown Live elimination match, one thing seems to be certain – he will still be World Champion at the end of it.

In fact, there is no indication of it anytime soon, but the report went on to state that when Cena comes back, he is likely to challenge Styles for the World title, with the storyline playing off the fact that he has pinned John Cena 3 times already. The match may even be as soon as the TLC this December 4th at Boston.

However, it is unclear as to exactly when Cena’s return will be. He is advertised for Survivor Series despite not being advertised for events in between. It is likely that Cena will be part of the 5-on-5 Survivor Series elimination match for Team Smackdown Live.

After that, his next advertised appearance is on December 26th for the Smackdown Live Madison Square Garden House show. It would be interesting to see Cena-Styles 3 at TLC, as AJ Styles would be the favourite going into that match as well. Would you be interested in seeing Cena-Styles 3 in a TLC match?

For now, AJ Styles is scheduled to face his next opponent in James Ellsworth for the title next week on Smackdown. He does appear to have his hands full!
