WWE News: WWE working on World Women's Classic tournament

‘The Four Horsewomen’ were the face of the transition

There have been previous reports about plans being discussed for WWE Cruiserweight Classic which will only focus on female talent and it looks like it shall happen real soon.

The women's revolution in WWE has come a long way. From being called 'divas' and transitioning from a time when their matches were known for being bathroom breaks to now being the main eventers at weekly tapings, the WWE Universe has witnessed and has been a part of the transformation.

However, the transition wasn't gradual but relatively rapid instead. The NXT women's division made their presence felt in WWE and changed everything. The 'divas championship' title was scrapped and in came the 'Women's Championship' to be held by women who are known for their athleticism, ferocity and hard-hitting instead of 'cat-fighting'.

According to allwrestlingnews.com, the planned Women’s Cruiserweight Classic event might be held sometime early next year. The entire plan is being put together by Triple H and Stephanie McMahon and is under the working title 'World Women's Classic'.

As reported, some within the promotional department are apprehensive about the introduction of a new division. There are already two divisions on the current women’s roster and adding a new one would mean working around many other angles so as to make it a complete package and also to not let the women's division lose relevance.

With the success of the men's cruiserweight division, WWE would sure be scouting a lot of independent circuits and not only aiming at NXT for competitive female wrestlers. Although we might not see an as extensive tournament as the men's cruiserweight division, but WWE won't compromise on the quality of talent which shall participate.

Asuka is in the waiting to be called up to the main roster

In early August, Daniel Bryan did an interview where he spoke about the women's cruiserweight division. He said:

“I wouldn't be surprised(if the women's cruiserweight happens). I think the tournament format really lends itself to helping make stars and if you want to make stars, a tournament is a great way to do it.”

If the tournament happens, we might get to see talents like Asuka, Rachael Fazio, Tessa Blanchard finally get their due and cement their spot on the main roster. It appears to only be a matter of time now till we see the women's division go through another transition.
