Wrestlemania would have been a completely different event this year if CM Punk had faced The Undertaker. Now that the Undertaker’s return looks elusive owing to his poor health, it is time WWE started looking for new feuds for CM Punk. Punk is without doubt one of the top wrestlers today and he is sure to have a spot in Wrestlemania this year, especially after his 435 day title reign. With that said, let us now look at the possible wrestlers Punk could face if Undertaker does not return to Wrestlemania this year.
1. Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar has now made two appearances on RAW and has acted for Paul Heyman though he seems to deny it. This puts into speculation as to whether Brock is the leader of the Shield.
With Punk constantly denying that he or Paul Heyman have associated with the Shield and from what I see, Punk could be telling the truth. If Punk hasn’t really associated with the Shield and Maddox, then I guess Heyman has been dealing with these miscreants behind Punk.
Now Punk was out last week defending Heyman, and the moment Punk realizes that Heyman has been responsible for the Shield attacks, he will most probably go against him. Heyman will then send out Lesnar against Punk, leading to a match between both of them in Wrestlemania.
I guess the only reason Punk lost his world title to Rock in Royal Rumble is because of his plans to face The Undertaker. Now that Undertaker’s appearance looks doubtful, WWE could push Punk back again into the title picture and make the Rock vs Cena’s ‘Twice in a lifetime’ match a triple threat match.
Most hardcore wrestling fans are frustrated over the fact that Rock and Cena are going to face each other again at Wrestlemania. The entire once in a lifetime match that they had last year meant nothing and seeing it all over again isn’t worthwhile. Hence the inclusion of Punk will make this bout interesting.
If that is indeed going to be the scenario then the Rock will lose the title to Punk in Elimination Chamber and then finally lose the World Title to Cena at Wrestlemania.
3. Ryback
Though recent spoilers across the internet suggest Ryback is set to face Chris Jericho, I for one feel this is a possibility if Punk is going to have no opponent for Wrestlemania. Ryback has had several failed instances of winning the world title from Punk and the reason behind that was the Shield.
Punk, despite his innocence in the ring, could really be the leader of the Shield and with Lesnar the new recruit of his team, Punk could prove just the right opponent that WWE will want to put Ryback against in Wrestlemania.
These are likely choices only if The Undertaker fails to make it to this year’s Wrestlemania. However, for over two years now WWE has had issues with Undertaker’s health and despite that, the Taker has come out to give us the splendid performance that he always does.
Hopefully we will see Undertaker returning this year and as for his streak, I guess CM Punk has done more than enough to deserve breaking it.
