Last night, WWE announced that John Cena is the no.1 contender for World Heavyweight Championship. He will face Alberto del Rio at Hell in a Cell PPV.
Everyone was shocked after that announcement. Later on, John Cena twitted that he will be back even stronger at Hell in a Cell PPV.
Alberto Del Rio who successfully defended his championship against RVD at Battleground, also expressed his thoughts about his championship match with John Cena.
There were mixed responses from the fan side. John Cena’s fans were very excited and happy. They were saying that this match will make the World Heavyweight Championship more relevant. However, as usually, Cena haters were saying that WWE can survive without him and there are other wrestlers like Dolph Ziggler, Sandow (MITB), and former champion Rey Mysterio (yet to return) who should be given a title match.
Now the question arises why Cena is given that opportunity? He has not been in the ring after SummerSlam due to his elbow injury and now he is getting a title match as a gift for his return !!! Well, in my opinion, this all could be a set up for Wrestlemania 30. As there are some rumors on who’s going to face The Undertaker, this match could be a part of the storyline. If John Cena wins the match at Hell in a Cell then he can face The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 30 in a Championship Match. Sounds good ?
The Undertaker has never been in the ring with John Cena at Wrestlemania and John Cena is one of those wrestlers whom WWE Universe want to see as The Undertaker’s Wrestlemania opponent. The Undertaker is 8 times World Heavyweight Champion and John Cena has won this title only twice.
The Undertaker made his debut in 1984 and it’s been almost 29 years since then. He is getting old that’s why he is doing only Wrestlemania Events. This Wrestlemania could be his last. If The Undertaker is planning on retirement then winning the World Heavyweight Championship one more time will be a great way.
After that match at Hell in a Cell it will be more clear but this looks like a solid reason why John Cena is given that opportunity. If he wins the World title, he will be the best Wrestlemania choice for The Undertaker.
