Reports: WWE forced to release Alberto Del Rio after almost getting sued?

Alberto Del Rio

In a subsequent turn of events after the backstage incident where WWE released Alberto Del Rio, rumours have been doing rounds that they were forced to take such action against Del Rio because of Cody Barbierri, the WWE social media manager, who threatened to sue the company after the Mexican “slapped the s***” out of him.

The incident took place after Barbierri made a racist joke about Del Rio in reply to a someone who accused him of not cleaning his plate. The humour did not sit along well with Del Rio as he demanded an apology from Barbierri after hearing about his comments later from a third party.

Eventually, the confrontation ended with Barbierri getting slapped and knocked down to the floor.

Initially, the WWE notified Del Rio that he will be serving a suspension period until the Summerslam PPV. Barbierri, however, wasn’t satisfied with just that and many believe that he threatened to sue the WWE at that point.

Due to legal matters, WWE did not take any chance and had to let Del Rio go. On August 7, COO Triple H called Del Rio and passed on the message of letting him go and he was really furious about it.
