The perennial fan favorite Rey Mysterio has a legion of fans that want him back in the WWE sooner or later. The man himself has been quite keen on stepping foot again in the WWE ring, but the officials backstage think otherwise.

For a star like Rey, there are always many takers waiting in line due to his star power. If speculations are to be believed, Rey is all set to make his Lucha Underground debut and be the marquee star of season 2. Before that transpires, though, Mysterio is keeping himself busy in the indies, which is the best way to be occupied for a pro wrestler.

He won the Destiny Heavyweight title at Mississauga, Ontario on October 3rd for the federation promoted by former WWE Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella. That wasn’t the only WWE angle involved as he defeated former WWE star Justin Gabriel (now known as P.J Black) and Ricochet to claim the gold. Destiny Wrestling is a federation that is part of the BattleArts Academy that is the brainchild of Santino.

The triple threat encounter was said to be a very solid match as all three men involved possess an exceptional resume when it comes to their in-ring repertoire. The crowd was goin nuts by the action in the ring and it ended up being a classic indie contest. Below are the photos from the event:

– WWE Hall Of Famer Bruno Sammartino had to undergo a back surgery after suffering a fall when his aged legs gave up due to recurring back problems. The longest reigning WWF Champion has had issues with his back since it came to light during WrestleMania 31 season in San Jose, as noted by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It should also be noted that Bruno’s leg isn’t back to its former strenght but he is making steady progress by walking a substantial amount of miles, most of the days in a week.

All those years of wear and tear is certainly going to take a toll once a star reaches the twilight stages of his life and the legendary Sammartino is going through the same. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
